Majestic Qajar

This line takes its inspiration from the meticulous and vibrant artistry of Persia’s 18th-century Qajar period, the Iranian royal dynasty of Turkic origin that ruled Iran from 1789 to 1925. The Qajar period is particularly known for its unique artistry, which mixed references to European miniature painting as Persian and European cultures began to mix during that time thanks to Iran’s strengthening of trade agreements with Europe. Qajar artists began to re-appropriate European tropes of the Orient while maintaining references to their Persian past and culture.

An 18-karat gold necklace featuring Toktam’s dancer’s motif featuring interlocking twisted oval shapes and triangle bow forms embellished with a bezel set multi-color sapphire in the center of each bow. This magnificent decoration serves to present the piece’s resplendent 18-karat gold pendant laden with curvaceous motifs covered in ruby and diamonds. The studs are inspired by magnificent stained-glass windows that can found in old Qajar buildings in Iran. On each, Toktam has included a dome covered in ruby repeated in the large droplet in the center from which dangle three droplets of diamond and ruby.
